Here are some shots from Chris and Amanda’s gorgeous wedding. The bride and groom were so much fun to work with - even in the Southern Alberta heat! I know they’re itching to see their proofs and hopefully this will satiate their hunger for a few more days!

I have to say though, this post is a little bittersweet for me. Chris and Amanda’s wedding will be my last wedding for at least a few years. I’ve made the decision to apply into med school this fall and with the onslaught of classes and applications I wont be able to take on anymore clients. I’m going to keep my blog up and update it with life’s adventures. You can expect to read a little bit more about me and a little bit less about the business. Hope you still enjoy it!

P.S. It’s 1:30 AM!! I’m not staying up to wait for the clip to render so, finger’s crossed that it’s up by the morning… as in, by 8:00 AM… :p

To Chris and Amanda: wishing you all of the best in your new life together, I had so much fun photographing your wedding, even with sweat dripping down my legs!

I must say, I know, I’m terribly behind on blogging… but more on that later.

Here’s an image from an engagement session this past fall with the lovely couple, Trish & Shane. We took this on an EXTREMELY windy day out in the Crowsnest Pass (where the wind always blows). Trish & Shane were secretly convinced that the pictures would turn out terrible due to the wind but thankfully, to their delight, we captured some beautiful portraits. If I ever find some time, I’ll post more of their session.  I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding in Banff this New Year. If I thought the wind was bad… it was nothing. It was brutally cold their wedding day, something in the negative twenties…BUT despite the freezing temperatures, it was a beautiful and lively wedding. The wedding party were such troopers - especially Trish (you’ll see why later)! I’m just in the middle of proofing and hope to get a sneak peek up in the next week.

Onto other things… it may beg the question, why am I so behind on blogging? Well boys and girls… let me tell you!

A few recent life changes have led me to reconsider my career path… don’t freak out, I’m still going to be a photographer…  but not full time. I have decided that while I love photography, I don’t wish for it to be my full-time career. So, I’m back at university - for year number SIX. I’ve decided to pursue my original goal (when I started university six years ago) to become a doctor. So, why am I not blogging so much? Because I’m studying! Yesterday I became a total geek, I signed up for Pre Med Club! I plan on taking the MCAT this summer and applying to various schools this fall. Wish me Luck!

What does this mean for you?

My response time to e-mails can, at times, be delayed by a couple of days. I try my best to get back to you right away but please be patient if I’m behind. If you have sent me an e-mail and it’s been longer than a few days, send me another! I appologize if you get lost in the depths of my inbox and I’ll put you on the top of the list!

I’m still booking weddings and portraits but sessions are limited. So, plan ahead and book in advance! I plan on putting my calendar back up on the portrait side of the website so you can see what dates are available. Summer 2009 weddings are booking up fast so if you are interested, send me an e-mail or give me a call and I will set you up with all of our information.

That is all for now! I’m off to my Chem Lab (feeling very nerdy)!

I’m just editing some pictures we took down in Spokane, WA this fall. I came across some of my favorite little girl in the whole wide world. She is so beautiful and I miss her very much. Mommy and Daddy will have to show her and tell her this:

R - I cannot believe how quickly you’ve become such a big girl, I remember when you were just a wee baby and I thought you were the most beautiful baby girl on the planet… just look at you now! You become more beautiful as each day passes. I had lots of fun when I came to visit you and cannot wait to see you again. Love You & Miss You, Auntie Katie.

I mean… how could you not fall in love with a sweet face such as this? Even with some 4 year old attitude!! Sometimes, as parents, I think we say in our heads, “kid, you’re lucky you’re so darn cute.” That’s why we hang pictures like this on our walls… so when they’re screaming their little heads off we can sigh and remember… okay, in 5 minutes she’ll be back to that sweet little face.

Things are starting to settle back down out West so I thought I’d give a post for fun just to let you know that I’m alive and well and am just starting to dive into my backlog of editing and proofing.

Sorry it has been such a long time since my last post but I’m hoping to get back on my feet soon.

For now, here is Meg’s own little hurricane….. Ike.

Okay Ladies and Gentlemen… I’ve been busy so I apologize for not posting in so long! August is going to be a crazy month as well. We leave to Alberta on Tuesday for a couple of weeks (hooray!) and we’re really looking forward to seeing some family and friends and getting in a couple sessions while we’re out there.

Here are the product shots that I’ve been promising you! These are the 5×5 Memory Books with a frosted cover. All of our Memory Books are custom designed and the quality is truly second to none. I know there are a lot of economical books out there but they pale in comparison to these books. You really have to feel it to believe it - the pages are silky smooth and have a nice weight to them, they’re not going to crease or warp (unless you let your toddler go at it!). We’re in the middle of getting out studio samples ready so if you’d like to see one in person I’ll be more than happy to show you!

We’re also getting in samples of our higher end books - they come with leather covers and have flush-mount, lay flat pages. Our higher end books are appropriate for weddings… or very lucky babies!! Look forward to those in the next couple of months.

P.S. What’s that tulle in the background? Oh… just one of those super sweet baby tutus I’m working on!! I cannot wait to finish it and show you. Our tutus and pettiskirts will be available for all of our children’s sessions. We’re even going to have enough on hand that if your darling little girl loves it so much Mommy can buy one and she can go home in it. How does that sound? I’m stocking up on rubber boots, antique toys, capes and all sorts of fun things for the little ones to try on and play with.

So I’m back… but not for long. I’m here until August 5th and then I’m away until August 18th. But never fear, I have my trusty Blackberry (we don’t part) so you can still get a hold of me if need be. I may not be as cool as all those folks running around with their new iPhones (jealous!) but I can still keep in touch with you. This weekend we’re off to a friend’s cottage north of Peterborough and I’m bringing my camera so hopefully we’ll get some fun shots that I can share. In August we’re going on a whirlwind trip through Alberta and out to Vancouver Island to visit family and friends whom I dearly miss! We’re going to do an engagement and newborn session as well as some family pictures while I’m away so I’ll try to post as often as possible while I’m away.

Okay, as for this past weekend - what a blast! I attended a workshop held by Skye Hardwick, an amazing portrait photographer based out of Pittsburgh. It was great to meet up with a group of portrait photographers and I got a tonne of great ideas for the business. My little man, Kayle, is starting daycare twice a week so I’ll have some extra time to pamper mysss… I mean get to business!

I also spent some time with my very close and amazing new-mommy friend, Meg. We took some more pictures of her adorable baby boy, Keegan. If you go back a few pages in the blog I took some maternity pictures of Meg, she was absolutely gorgeous and she’s looking fabulous only 3 weeks after having her sweet baby boy. I promised a look at her announcements so here they are. I’m also posting a little preview of the images we took this weekend AND a couple of shots from the workshop…. phew!

I also have those product shots of the books I ordered for a recent newborn session, I will try my best to get those to you tomorrow before we head off to the cottage.

Enjoy!

don’t you just love him?!?!

Post Wedding Fun!

Our referral winner and newlywed, Shayna, jumped back in her dress for a little fun on a Sunday evening. We revisited the site where I took the boys’ pre-ceremony pictures for a Trash the Dress session. After much cajoling from family friends, wondering when Shayna was going to roll around in the mud, we settled for a little dirt around the old barn. Shayna told me Ryan was going to throw her in the pool if she came back and her dress wasn’t trashed - hopefully she wasn’t dunked when she arrived home!

I haven’t had much time to look through it all so I just snagged a couple of shots for you to see! I’m headed back to Indianapolis on Wednesday and will not be back until Monday. I’m attending a great workshop by Skye Hardwick - a fabulous children’s photographer out of the States. I also get to spend some time with my good friend Meg and we’ll be taking some more pictures of her sweet baby boy. So we’ve got lots to look forward to but if I don’t post before I get back then have a great weekend!!

I know there are a few people waiting to see some cute pictures of Meg and Jeff’s little guy from my recent visit down to Indianaoplis but I’m going to make you wait longer- haha! I made them some baby announcement and I will share them with you but I’d like to wait until her friends and family have them in their hot little hands - I just can’t spoil a great thing!

I’m also waiting on a couple gorgeous baby books to come in the mail and I’m going to photograph them so you get the idea of what my final products look like. Jen and Peggy - UPS is telling me I should have the books at the end of next week, I’m crossing my fingers that they arrive earlier!

I’m taking a week to catch up on orders, baby quilts, Kayle’s baby book (I’m 4 months behind!), petti skirts and baby tutus (phew!)…But don’t worry!! There will be lots to look forward to!

Here it is… my first Trash the Dress Session! Heard of it before? It’s a new trend in the wedding industry where our pretty little brides head out for a messy photo shoot in their precious wedding dress. It can be as wild or as tame as you like it… some brides hang out in the dirt - others jump in the lake! It’s one last excuse to squeeze into that gorgeous gown (and say… it still fits!) and take some pictures of you in the dress your daughter probably won’t ever wear - except to try on and say - wow mom, you were that small? (haha)

If your dress is still in a pile somewhere in your house then give me a shout and we’ll haul it out for an afternoon of pure creative fun! Or, box it up and don’t open it for another 20 years.

Okay, I can’t wait any longer… say hello to Holly - it’ll be her 2nd anniversary this year and she can proudly say she still fits in her dress and looks absolutely gorgeous. Thanks Holly for the fabulous day, I hope Matt drools over these!

Well… one of my oh-so-cute maternity clients had an oh-so-cute baby girl! Madison Ann was born on May 22nd, a day before her scheduled arrival. I spent a few hours with Madison along with her gorgeous mama and proud papa this weekend. Glad to say that mom is doing well after a rough go. Looks like Madison already has her grandparent’s wrapped around her tiny fingers and who wouldn’t be… she is so cute!!

Congrats to Bill and Tracy. Enjoy every moment of your growing beauty!

Thursday night Tasha and I braved the heat to capture some graduation images. It was a hot but fun evening, we even had a tour come by and watch us as we took pictures on a historic building. Thanks for the great evening Tasha, hope your last month of school is quick and painless!

We have a busy weekend coming up, complete with a newborn shoot tomorrow and we’re going to enjoy Art in the Park in Windsor and the Strawberry Festival in Lasalle. See you out there!

a happy first birthday!!

It’s official, my little guy can now sit forward in his car seat… he’s ONE whole year old! We had some friends and family over tonight for a little birthday bash for our sweet little boy. He was such a good boy today and hammed it up for everyone at the party. This is a bit of a big share but I just can’t resist. Here is his super special birthday cake all for him!

p.s. it’s getting late and I’m super tired so I hope these all look as good and that what I’ve written makes sense!

Almost 1 Year!

So today I went out to a park, last minute, to give my 70-200 mm lens some exercise as I hate to admit it but I haven’t had much chance to use it yet. With wedding season coming up I thought it’d be great to go outside and play. My little man will be 1 year on May 30th and being a photographer-mom I want him to have super cute 1 Year pictures. He’s pretty sweet to begin with so I don’t think it will be tough.

Here’s one I just processed. We’re going back with some help as Mommy could use someone to distract him and Abbie, our chocolate lab, wasn’t very much help. Can’t wait to process the others and show you…

Kayle 1 Year

On another note: I am in the process of developing some mini-sessions. Just 1/2 an hour of photography in the park with petti-skirts, capes, and cardboard swords. A low session fee with 10-12 selects for you to choose from. I’ll be posting all the details and available dates soon.
